The ancient Roman Aosta
In the first century b.C., the Romans began to urbanize the territory they had conquered: they chartered the road network and founded the city of Augusta Praetoria.
The monumental remains preserved in the historical center of the city are a testimony to that period: the Arch of Augustus, the Porta Praetoria, the Roman Theatre, the Forum and the Cryptoporticus. The new archaeological park of the megalithic area of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans is worthy of international acclaim. Here you can find treasures ranging from a Romanesque church to Bronze Age sanctuaries, and consecration rituals dating back to the latter part of the Neolithic period.
